Fixed income

Where your monthly interest comes from.

A direct loan to a company, with the interest paid to you every month.

  1. 1Afranga and you. Afranga verifies your identity and opens your individual wallet, held by Lemonway in your name.
  2. 2Afranga and the company. Afranga vets the company before it can raise money, then reviews it every quarter.
  3. 3You and the company. You sign the loan agreement directly with the company: your money goes to it, and it pays you interest every month.

Your loan agreement is directly with the borrowing company. Afranga earns its money by charging the borrowing companies, not investors.

LiquidityYes, on request: up to 30% of your SaveSmart holdings, at most €5,000 in any 365 days, for a 1% fee per withdrawal. You keep the interest earned to that date.No direct liquidity, but you can list the loan on the Secondary Market at a price up to 15% above or below the amount still owed. The interest earned up to the sale date stays yours. It sells only if another investor buys it.

SaveSmart is the simpler option; the Primary Market gives more control and a wider range of rates. You can use both from the same account.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

How is interest paid?

Interest is paid monthly to your Afranga wallet, after withholding tax has been deducted. The invested principal is repaid in full at the end of the investment term. With SaveSmart, the principal can instead be reinvested automatically for a new term if you enable the "Re-invest" option. On the Primary Market you reinvest manually.

How is the interest worked out?

Amount × yearly rate × number of days ÷ 365, so a 31-day month pays slightly more than a 30-day one. On the Primary Market, interest starts once a loan is fully funded. Every payment appears in your Account Statement.

Is this the same as a bank deposit?

No. Your investment is not a deposit - it is a private loan made through Afranga and carries investment risk. It is not covered by deposit guarantee schemes, as bank deposits typically are.

Who are the borrowers?

Established lending companies that raise money on Afranga to fund their own business, each named in the loan's fact sheet. SaveSmart currently invests in loans to one of them, Stikcredit; on the Primary Market you choose the loans yourself. Your loan agreement is always directly with the borrowing company.

What happens if the borrower cannot pay?

There is no buyback and no automatic refund. Afranga chases the money and can take legal action, but recovery is not guaranteed. You could get back less than you put in, or nothing.

Can I make multiple SaveSmart investments?

Yes, however multiple investments with the same parameters made on the same day may be grouped. Limits may apply to prevent excessive fragmentation.

Is the SaveSmart rate fixed for my next term too?

The rate is fixed for the term you invest in. Rates are current and not guaranteed for future terms.

Can I get my money out before the term ends?

From SaveSmart, yes. You can withdraw up to 30% of your SaveSmart investment before maturity, up to a maximum of €5,000. If 30% of your investment comes to less than €100, you can still withdraw up to €100, as long as you have at least €100 invested. A 1% fee applies to every early withdrawal.

On the Primary Market you can list an active loan on the Secondary Market; it sells if another investor buys it.

Do I pay tax on the interest?

Withholding tax is deducted from the interest before it reaches your wallet. Whether you owe anything more depends on where you live, and the rules differ by country. We give you the statements you need; for your own situation, check with a tax adviser.

What happens if Afranga stops operating?

Your loan agreement is directly with the lending company and stays valid. An appointed administrator keeps the loans running and the borrower carries on repaying on the original schedule. Your uninvested and repaid money stays in your separate Lemonway account.

Who can invest?

Adults resident in the European Economic Area. You will go through an identity check when you open the account, and a short questionnaire about your experience - that is part of the rules we follow as a licensed provider.
